I’ve recently learned of a new online social network just for us women living in Thailand! We are arriving in increasing numbers and it’s so nice to have a supportive network of like-minded people to have a conversation with and relax or make some good in the world.
Chicky Net is an online social forum for women living in Bangkok, Koh Samui, Phuket and Chiang Mai. At the moment, each region has it’s own site, but owner and founder Berthe Mandaat has great plans for the future of Chicky Net. I got the chance to interview Berthe recently to talk a little bit about herself and why she put together a social network just for expat women living in Thailand.

What is Chicky Net?
Chicky Net is a web-based girls-only social network dedicated to connecting women living in Thailand.
How did Chicky Net start?
Chicky Net Phuket was founded in Phuket by me on March 2009. In it’s short existence it proved to be a big success right away and at the moment we have over 300 members and are growing by the day! Regular events are being organized all the time by the members, ranging from dinners and dancing to picnics and sailing trips. Even though the network itself is girls-only, most of the events are open to men as well. The aim is to make new friends and have as much fun as possible along the way!
Our dream…
Wouldn’t it be great if you were visiting another city anywhere in the world and that could login to the local Chicky Net network available there? Wouldn’t it be great if you could find all that local information and that you could maybe even join in for the next brunch?
Our dream is to create a worldwide network of local networks. First starting of with several cities in Thailand. Then we’ll cross the borders into Asia and eventually we want to spread out to the rest over the world.

A Little Bit about Berthe:
I am a 32 years old graphic designer currently living in Phuket with my boyfriend. Before moving to Thailand in December 2008 we lived in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. We moved here for a more relaxed life, it’s as simple as that actually. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Netherlands and especially Amsterdam, but sometimes your ready for something different : )
I love reading, playing games, spending time on my mac, going out to dinner and hanging around in bars having drinks and a nice chat. Sports wise I have always been very lazy and nothing could really keep my interest for very long. However, a couple of months ago we organized a girls-only muay thai work-out class. And seriously.. it’s great fun! I am still a sissy and if someone punched me I would go down in a flash and if I had to punch someone I would seriously hurt myself. But I enjoy the (ahem…very girly) workout!
After 3 months of not meeting any nice people in Phuket I was fed up with it and I created a network for girls. Why only girls? Ehm… look at the testosteron loaded ThaiVisa … who in their right girly mind would want to post something there?
Because of the enormous success of the Phuket network the idea came to create more networks in Thailand. There had to be just as a need here as there was in Phuket. Chiang Mai was launched and right after that the request came to set one up in Koh Samui. And now we are having a go at Bangkok! I think it’s just amazing to see what is happening and that there now is this place where women can chat, meet and make friends!
So help spread the word we need all the help we can get! Talk about it to the people you meet and invite the girls you know : )

Amy, I am glad to see that you are passing the word around about ChickyNet. The Bangkok section is pretty sparse, but with a nudge here and there, hopefully it will grow.

I agree, Cat, I think it’s a great altertative to some other forums out there – just need to build members!
