When You’ve Got the Blues
The other day I read a China expat's post on dealing with the blues and he gave some recommendations to get over the hump, so to speak. I thought I'd take some of his main points and translate them to a Thailand expat's perspective, particularly a woman's perspective. Expat women have a very different experience than men expats, and I think we can be more susceptible to getting the blues. Single women can be lonelier in some cases, and it doesn't help if you're surrounded by whiners. We women need someone to talk to, to share our feelings with. Many men ...
Vegetarian Thailand
I got a suggestion after posting about healthy eating in Thailand to focus on vegetarian and/or vegan food in Thailand. In my previous post, one of the strategies for having a vegetarian meal is to look for the vegetarian food stalls in the food courts at larger shopping malls. I've found that the smaller shopping centers such as BigC's food courts rarely have vegetarian fare, but larger malls will have one small stall. Another simple strategy for getting a tasty vegetarian meal is to eat at an Indian restaurant, especially if that restaurant serves Southern Indian food. There are a fair ...
Receiving Parcels, Customs and Duty in Thailand
With online companies like eBay and Amazon, you don't have to do without that many products that you miss whilst living in Thailand. You might even get friends and family from your home country to send you some care packages now and then (and you feel like it's Christmas morning again!). Thailand's postal service is more or less reliable; most expats I've talked to, and my own experience has been an overall good one with parcels and packages arriving in good condition and in a reasonably timely manner. Some overall tips to consider, especially when receiving packages from people you know: Have them ...

Eating Healthy in Thailand
The great news is that it is very easy to eat healthy in Thailand. And it's rather easy to do. When I came to Bangkok, I had lost about 10 pounds without ever trying. The combination of lots of sweat from oppressive heat and humidity, regular workouts, abundance of fresh fruit (that was not boring) and smaller portions all contributed to the weight loss and general good health. I looked at Thai people with envy: so small and slender and they were eating all the time! Thai cuisine has always had dishes that have lots of vegetables and little meat. I personally ...

The Heat is On
How hot can you take it? Roast ‘em and toast ‘em. Feel the burn. It’s that time of year when all the cliches about the oppressive heat of Thailand come out in thought and conversation. We do whatever we can to stay inside an air conditioned space: your home, an ice cold theater, a taxi, the sweet relief of stepping into the Skytrain,or... [Read more of this review]
Acclimate Magazine - New for Expat Women in Bangkok
There’s a new resource for expat women living in Bangkok, Thailand! The second issue of Acclimate Magazine has just been published and the first issue received much positive feedback. The magazine focuses primarily on expat wives, not those women who are working, who are generally college educated. The magazine is divided into five sections: You... [Read more of this review]
